Synyster Gates, Born as Brian Elwin Haner Jr. on July 7, 1981, is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of A7x and was a backing vocalist and guitarist in Pinkly Smooth, a side project of late friend and fellow A7x member, The Rev. He joined A7x shortly after the band was formed by Zacky Vengeance, M Shadows, The Rev and Matt Wendt. His father is a comedian, musician and author. The band has had a few drummer and bassist changes over the years, with Johnny Christ replacing previous bassists Wendt, Justin Sane and Dameon Ash and Brooks Wackerman as the 3rd drummer replacement of The Rev. He's number 9 on Guitar World's best metal guitarists of all time.
