Cliff Diving (Spelled "Cliffdiving" on the When Your Heart Stops Beating) is a song written by the band +44. Their debut album, "When Your Heart Stops Beating", was released November 14. It starts off fast paced and moves to a moderato verse. The song was released as a 7" single shipped as a bundle with pre-orders of "When Your Heart Stops Beating" in USA. According to the band leader, Mark Hoppus, "Cliff Diving" is the song that resembles the musical style of blink-182 (the band he and +44 drummer Travis Barker were in before the split in 2005) more than most on this album. Though it has become a live show favorite among fans, it is still unknown if the song will remain a 7" single or if it will become a proper single off "When Your Heart Stops Beating".
Meaning of the song[]
In an interview Mark Hoppus mentioned that the name of the song - Cliff Diving - came from his childhood when his friends used to jump off the roof of a house and into a pool; called "cliff diving" due to the similarity. It was almost the title track to the band's debut album.
